MushroomFest2009
This is just a reminder that we will be having our first annual Mushroom Festival at Dale Criders, Pithlachocco. The fungal inoculation workshop will start at 10am and will end around 4pm. The workshop will include:

Jody Venn (Experienced local grower of shiitake’s and other gourmet and medicinal mushrooms)

- An overview of gourmet and medicinal mushrooms.
- An overview of log cultivation.

- The inoculation experience (Inoculate your own log)

(Microbiologist, Scott Edmonson)

- Getting into the details. Microbes and their benefit to the natural cycle. During this session Scott will explain fungal organisms and their life cycles.
- Mycorhyzal fungi and your garden.

- He’ll also be setting up his microscope for us to have a closer look at some fungi.

Dave Consor (Forester and shiitake grower)

- Dave will continue the discussion on log cultivation while honing in on tree species and the benefits of thinning certain hardwoods and using them in mushroom production. Hopefully we can take a walk around Dale’s 60 + arce, pristeen property, right on Newnan’s Lake/ Lake Pithlachocco and look at some of these species and have some discussions on their neccescary natural cycles.

THAT’S JUST THE BEGINNING.

And the festivities continue. At 4pm our doors are open to the public for food and music. We will ask for a $10-$20 donation to help pay musicians and pay for food. If you have cooking skills and don’t want to pay, bring a mushroom dish and let the best cook take 2 inoculated logs and a bag of locally grown dehydrated shiitake mushrooms home. I’ll let our favorite artist tell the rest…
