Red and Chris Henry - Nov 8th

Please plan to welcome the Red and Chris Henry Bluegrass Band back to "Anhinga Roost" for the first House Concert of the fall season. Performing their way down from the Shenandoah Valley of Virginia,  Red and Chris along with Barbara Johnson (bass)  and Jenny Obert (fiddle) are sure to set the jack o lanterns a blaze with their own "peak of the art bluegrass".

Sunday November 8th at 7 p.m. Chris and Red, formerly of Hawthorne will be back home here in Windsor at 11803 N.E. 7th Av.  near the east shore of Newnans Lake were they have played on my Anhinga Roost recordings since 1973.  Help me welcome thesecrowd pleasing musicians back to the fold.

There will be pot luck supper provisions with rye grass beverage, home-grown mushroom soup. chips and salads.  a donation of $12 to $15 will be collect for the band's return to Virginia.  Please bring lawn chair, or blanket.

There will be a camp fire pick and sing following the concert-- so plan on hanging around into the Monday morning hours if you can.  I hope you will plan to attend.  You are sure to enjoy the music and visitation with the band.

2009 FESC Summit Scheduled
for Sept. 29-30 at USF

Retired Florida wildlife biologist (of 32 years); singer/songwriter, Dale Crider will be performing environmentally themed songs  on acoustical guitar --accompanied by bass player, science teacher, Carrie Hamby to sing harmony vocals.  Carrie is also a singer/songwriter and CD producer.


The 2009 FESC Summit will be held at the University of South Florida’s Marshall Center September 29-30. This will be an annual event to share information and showcase FESC research. September 29 will begin with overviews of energy policy and opportunities on the national and Florida stage, a FESC overview and update, high-level FESC energy program discussions, and a poster reception.

September 30 will be more technical, opening with research thrust overviews, and leading to project-level presentations and discussions. The summit will culminate with summations for program and proposal development.

Mushroom Fest - April 4th

This is just a reminder that we will be having our first annual Mushroom Festival at Dale Criders, Pithlachocco. The fungal inoculation workshop will start at 10am and will end around 4pm. The workshop will include:

Jody Venn (Experienced local grower of shiitake’s and other gourmet and medicinal mushrooms)

- An overview of gourmet and medicinal mushrooms.
- An overview of log cultivation.

- The inoculation experience (Inoculate your own log)

(Microbiologist, Scott Edmonson)

- Getting into the details. Microbes and their benefit to the natural cycle. During this session Scott will explain fungal organisms and their life cycles.
- Mycorhyzal fungi and your garden.

- He’ll also be setting up his microscope for us to have a closer look at some fungi.

Dave Consor (Forester and shiitake grower)

- Dave will continue the discussion on log cultivation while honing in on tree species and the benefits of thinning certain hardwoods and using them in mushroom production. Hopefully we can take a walk around Dale’s 60 + arce, pristeen property, right on Newnan’s Lake/ Lake Pithlachocco and look at some of these species and have some discussions on their neccescary natural cycles.

Every workshop attendee will bring home an inoculated log and a inoculation/care guide. For those of you that did the workshop at Indigo, feel free to attend this one at no cost. And the festivities continue. At 4pm our doors are open to the public for food and music. We will ask for a $10-$20 donation to help pay musicians and pay for food. If you have cooking skills and don’t want to pay, bring a mushroom dish and let the best cook take 2 inoculated logs and a bag of locally grown dehydrated shiitake mushrooms home. I’ll let our favorite artist tell the rest…
